Annual Harvest Offering 2025
The Unfinished Task
By Dr. Jim "Umfundisi" Lo+, Director
Regularly, I look up Christian statistics as it relates to our world. As of today, according to the Lausanne Movement, over 3 billion people have yet to hear the name of Jesus Christ, which means they have not heard His wondrous message of salvation.
The above statistic causes me to think of the word of Romans 10:14-15, which proposes four important questions:
-
How can people call on someone they have not believed in?
-
How can people believe in someone of whom they have not heard?
-
How can people hear and learn without someone sharing with them?
-
How can people respond to preaching and teaching about Jesus Christ unless someone is sent to them?
I have been informed that approximately 97% of all missionaries work among people who have already been reached by the Gospel. That leaves only an estimated 3% of missionaries are serving among the unreached.
While the above statistics about the 3 billion and where the majority of missionaries are serving touches my heart deeply, I am also moved by the following reality. There are some countries where the Gospel has been introduced, but the church is still in the stage of infancy and therefore needs to be nurtured into maturity so that she can one day become self-propagating, self-supporting, and self-governed.
In the past year I have received communiques from different ones, asking the Church of God (Holiness) to help them. Cries for help have come from Africa, India, Nepal, and Ecuador. To discern where God would like us to serve, we need to do some exploratory trips. Two areas especially touch my heart: Ecuador and Nepal/India, which reportedly is where more unreached people than in any other country in the world reside.
The statistical numbers make one thing clear. The missionary task of reaching into new areas is unfinished!
