Remembering Missionary Naomi Collins

Missionary to Jamaica, Virgin Gorda, St. Thomas, and Mexico

What would make a 29-year-old, single lady leave her family and the familiarity of home to move to another country? In the case of Naomi Collins, it was to use her abilities for the Master and to share His love with others. After spending a summer in Jamaica helping with Vacation Bible Schools, Sis. Naomi moved to Jamaica in the fall of 1965 to teach on the Venture campus. Not only was Naomi a teacher, she was also a registered nurse. In 1969, she moved with fellow missionary Florence Wilkerson to Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands where they served as nurses at a government clinic in the village of North Sound, as well as official school nurses for the entire island. This was in addition to ministering to the islanders' spritiual needs. After a year of furlough, Naomi moved to St. Thomas, USVI, and taught in the Christian school there and served as school nurse. Her missionary career concluded with two terms in Mexico in the 1980s, where she assisted lead missionaries Rene and Lois Bardales, including traveling to various ministry points to teach about Jesus.

On Sunday, June 21, 2015, Naomi Collins left this earth for her eternal reward. Those who knew her describe her as quiet, kind, and genuine. She was not a person to seek the spotlight, but her faithful and helpful service touched many patients, friends, and students with the love of Christ.
