Called to Be Bridge Builders
I became a Christian because I wanted to end up in heaven and not in hell when my life came to an end. On the day I made the decision to be a Christian, my heart was filled with great joy. I thought, “I now have my ticket to eternal life.” The problem was that the faith I possessed was very “Jim Lo focused.” It was about me. To be transparent, my main concern was that I would be ready for heaven. I really was not too concerned about the spiritual welfare of others. However,

A Call to Prayer
Dear COGH Follower of Christ, At General Camp this year, the theme was focused on the question, “What is the church?” One truth that was shared over and over was this: “The church is a gathering of believers who are called by God to reach their communities, country, and world.” On Thursday mornings the World Missions Board knows that I take extended time to focus on praying and connecting with God. The hours spent in His presence have been so precious to me. Part of my time w

Missions Day at General Camp
Friday, June 6, was Missions Day at General Camp of the Churches of God (Holiness). In the World Missions portion of the morning service, Dr. Jim was joined onstage with reports from Board members Dwight Purtle and Paul Confer. Each reported how God is working in the Caribbean and in Bolivia, South America. Videos and reports were shared from many fields. That evening, Dr. Jim spoke in the missions rally. He gave a stirring challenge that ended with 45 individuals coming forw

God's Call to Holiness
God is using Dr. Jim’s book, God’s Call to Holiness , in nine countries in Africa, where over 20,000 people have studied it. One 19-year-old young lady testified, “When I attended the holiness training out of curiosity, the book pierced my heart. For the first time, I read about a God who is not distant but desires relationship. That night, I whispered, 'Jesus, if You are real, come and live in me.' And He did."

An Echo of Eternity
Over Mother’s Day weekend, Dr. Jim Lo spoke at the Church of God (Holiness) in Brooklyn, New York, a Haitian congregation. He later wrote, “As I participated in worship I thought of the words found in Revelation 7:9, ‘... I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb.’ “In the last two months I have been in services where worship was done in Spanish, Fr

Tears for the Lost
I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart. Romans 9:2 “When was the last time you cried for those who do not know Jesus Christ as their Savior?” This question was asked of me by a student during the first semester I taught at Indiana Wesleyan University. I quickly replied, “I have been a pastor for four years. I then served as a missionary in Africa and Southeast Asia for around another 14 years…” Before I could finish articulating a full answer the student inte

Allies of the Truth
When Roxene and I became missionaries, we were required by our mission board to recruit those who would become a part of our team as supporters. “Grandma Miller” became one of our team members. During one of our furloughs, I had opportunity to visit with her. As I sat across from her in her living room, Grandma Miller shared about how, when she was a young girl, she thought it would be wonderful to be a missionary. Reading stories about missionaries fueled her desire to go an

Why We Exist: Reaching the Lost
In 1874, Ira Sankey was doing a revival with D. L. Moody in Edinburg. In between services Sankey was reading a religious publication that had “The Ninety and Nine” by Elizabeth Clephane printed in it. What he read touched his heart so deeply that he cut it out and placed it in his vest pocket. The next day, Moody’s sermon was about the Good Shepherd. As the sermon was coming to a close, Moody asked Sankey to sing something suitable for the invitation. Sankey thought of the wo
