Prayer Requests for 2025
Christy & Larry Doyle, Lawrance II, Jacob, & Amaziah At the start of this new year, there are specific ways you can pray for the Doyle family in Papua New Guinea, where they work in partnership with Wycliffe Bible Translators: Christy and their youngest son, Jacob, returned to Papua New Guinea on Jan. 27 after three months in the U.S. for Christy’s foot surgery. Pray for Christy’s foot to completely heal and for this transition. Pray for Larry and Christy’s three boys, Lawran

Does God Speak My Language?
He wondered if he had failed. William Cameron Townsend had traveled to Guatemala in 1917 to sell Spanish Bibles, but it didn’t take long for him to realize most of the people he met did not speak Spanish. How was he helping them understand the gospel? From this disappointment, Cam launched into a new ministry—helping the Cakchiquel people learn to read and write their language. Still, the Cakchiquel people couldn’t read the Bible. The people asked a question that arrested him

A Year of Continuing
...The holy one, the true one, who has the key of David, who opens and no one will shut, who shuts and no one opens. Revelation 3:7b (ESV) Praise God with us that Christy and Jacob plan to return at the end of January! Her surgery was successful, and she is gaining strength back in her foot as she is starting to use it more. Pray that the healing would be complete soon. Christy and Jacob got to experience snow this year! They're hoping to make it back to PNG by the end of Jan

Thankfulness
November is the traditional American month for being thankful. Of course, the Bible tells us to be thankful all the time, but it’s nice to have a time to focus on gratitude. We all have so many blessings that we don’t deserve. Our second session of the Translators’ Training Course 1 went remarkably well, and three different groups of new translators (11 in total) from four Solos villages got their first practice at drafting and self-checking a chapter of the Bible (Genesis 22

Annual Harvest Offering November 2024
Building the Kingdom of God around the world can look like many things. Most often we may think of preaching and teaching, and those are certainly involved. However, building the Kingdom of God can also include small, tangible steps that support the preaching and teaching of the Word. For this year’s Annual Harvest Offering, we invite you to invest in specific projects—building blocks—to support the work of God in Myanmar and Papua New Guinea. The construction of a new buildi

Prayer Requests from Papua New Guinea
Translator Training Course 1 Next week is the second round of Translators’ Training Course 1 (TTC1) for the new translators in the Solos Language Program. In the last round we had 13 new Solos translators attend. Unfortunately, the Petats language team was not able to come, and a number of candidates from Inland Solos also did not attend. There were also some logistics and community difficulties, so we had to limit our planned two weeks of training to just one week. There are

Translator Training and Literacy Books
Months of preparation are now nearing completion, and it is time to start the first of three two-week sessions of Translators’ Training Course 1 for new translators in the Solos and Petats languages. In the last newsletter we rejoiced that we were aiming for 12-15 new Solos translators and adding four new Petats translators. The committee has been working hard on awareness, and now we have 35 new translators signed up! Pray for these men and women as they come to the course,

New Translators!
The Solos translation program has done some amazing work, but the past few years have been marked by more issues than progress. There have been encouraging signs: a huge interest in starting a new team in Gagan village in the more populous part of the language area, new people wanting to join the Coastal team in Tung village, and a growing awareness of the need to promote language use and development as a key component of cultural preservation. Larry just returned from a tri

Helping Children Learn to Read
At your local elementary school, how many books are in each classroom? In around 21 Solos schools in Papua New Guinea, there are no textbook readers at all. The children only have what their teachers write by hand on notebooks or on a blackboard to help them learn to read. In fact, in missionary Larry Doyle’s language study/survey in 2021 (pictured above), he found a pretty low and even declining literacy rate among the Solos people. This is a challenge that needs to be addre

Back in the Swing of Things
Larry’s January trip out to Buka to reconnect with the Solos Bible translation teams was brief, but fruitful. He was able to get a good bit of work done, a little bit of training in, and have meaningful conversations with the people who are or will be involved in translation. He was also able to connect to an official in the Department of Education to start some long-term planning for local teacher training in coming years. The older two boys, Lawrance II and Amaziah, were ab
