Derailed Plans or a Divine Plot Twist?
It was a normal March Tuesday in Cayman Brac. Pastor Gayle Woods drove from the mission home near the bluff, intent on visiting ill parishioners at the hospital. But on this particular day, Dr. Woods’ vehicle interrupted his plans by running roughly, not getting up to speed, and belching black exhaust. Abandoning his original intent, Dr. Woods set his sights on N & N Auto Repair. As he was passing Market Place, the car seemed to be running a little better, so he decided to pa

Celebrating Faithful Ministry
In December of 2014, David and Zenia Woods began an adventure when they stepped off a plane on to the island of Cayman Brac with their boys, Joseph and Noah. For the next 3 ½ years, they pastored the two congregations in the Brac and grew to love their new home and the people there. In March of 2018, the Woods packed up again, this time to move to Grand Cayman, where they felt God was leading them to pastor the Red Bay church. This move was bringing Zenia back to the place an

A Year of Harvest in Cayman Brac
We are thankful for how God is using Gayle and Micki Woods’ ministry in Cayman Brac. Dr. Woods reports that there are several unsaved people attending the two churches, Spot Bay and Watering Place. One couple in particular he feels is very near salvation. Pray for this couple! Dr. Woods is praying that 2021 would be a year of harvest in Cayman Brac. The Woods continue to lead in making necessary repairs and upgrades for the good of the churches—a new AC unit, a replacement ra

2020 What a Year!
2020 has been a year for the books. In the Cayman Islands, we have experienced earthquakes (nearly unheard of here), an out-of-control fire at the dump, an extreme lockdown period due to COVID-19, the mandate of civil partnerships by the governor, an active hurricane season and more. 2020 has surely been a year of fear, uncertainty and even despair. Yet with the apostle Paul we say, "We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; pers

"Love Your Enemies"--Theory or Practice?
The Cayman Islands’ legislature recently debated whether same-sex couples have the right to enter a union similar to marriage. Dr. Gayle Woods, pastor in Cayman Brac, wrote some thoughts about how Christians should respond in love. Later, this Domestic Partnership Bill was defeated by one vote. Kmanian345/Wikipedia While COVID-19 continues to rage around the world, a battle against Domestic Partnership becoming a legal reality in the Cayman Islands is being fought in our l

Bringing Good from the Bad
Why does God allow bad things to happen? In December of 1995 I struggled with that question. I cried many nights, waiting on the Lord to give me an answer that would make sense. But I never got one. Eventually, I accepted the circumstances, but it was not without troubling feelings of anger, deception, and betrayal. I felt deserted and abandoned. These feelings were not only triggered by the fact that my parents were separating, but by the fact that God almighty did nothing

New Convert via Facebook Live
A cruise ship passenger from Italy being treated for heart problems turned out to be the Cayman Islands’ first coronavirus patient. The government set restrictions into place quickly. The last church services held in the buildings in Cayman Brac were held on March 15. Since then, Dr. Woods has been broadcasting services by Facebook Live. A young lady named Tina had been attending the Spot Bay church for a few months. She contacted the Woods and told them that, during the Su

New Converts in Cayman Brac
Dr. Gayle Woods recently wrote about a guest who attended Sunday morning service in January. Afterwards, the lady who brought him to church mentioned he had been baptized. Dr. Woods said baptism was wonderful and he was glad, but asked the man if he had ever asked God to forgive his sins. He had not, but wanted to. Those still present gathered to pray, and soon a new name was written down in glory. The man now attends a weekly Bible study with Dr. Woods to learn the basic

Highlights from 2019
"Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men." Philippians 2:5–7 (ESV) It is Christmas time again, and we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Yet we are also challenged by the apostle's words to adopt the same mindset and behavior of Jesus in giving up Hi

Loss in Cayman Brac
The month of August began with deep sorrow. Wednesday night, July 31, Jude Walton of the Spot Bay church went home to the Lord. Jude had a kidney transplant 20 years ago which was failing. He was waiting word to see if his wife, Laura, would be an acceptable donor. He was on dialysis but seemed to be coping pretty well. I had Bible studies every week with Jude and Laura. Jude was also an active member of my Friday night men’s Bible study. He had a vibrant testimony an
