Preparation and Study

Time spent away from the teams in the villages is both needed and useful. It’s not as ‘glamorous’ to work day after day at the desk in the little rented office, but without that background work the overall translation program would be greatly impoverished.

One example of the things that get done is the Solos Dialect Survey that Larry finished writing up in late November. After some back- and-forth with a consultant and some edits, it was approved in mid January. Now the team has a pretty good idea of the dialect differences across the Solos area and can make better decisions about spelling, distribution, and other elements of the translation program.

Larry continues to work on literacy books, training to be a Translation Consultant, grammar and other linguistics, and some administrative tasks. No two days are the same! He’s also involved in preparing for the biennial Conference coming up in March. Hopefully, after that Conference, the teams will have enough chapters drafted to need advisor checking.
