And the Work Starts
October, right after the ABG elections, marked another village trip to Buka for Larry. The purpose was to get the translation teams started on using the drafting methods they had learned in TTC1 (Translators’ Training Course), which ended in July.
Although slightly delayed by the funeral of a community leader, the two teams at Tung village started quite strong and worked for four days, getting the whole drafting process done for multiple chunks (6-10 verses) of Scripture. On Thursday that week, Larry went down to Kahule village, and helped part of the team there (plus a new recruit) work all the way through the process for their first chunk of Scripture.
What about the team at Gagan who had missed the last two weeks of TTC1? Again, part of the team plus a new recruit were able to meet for a day and go through most of the drafting process together. We’re excited that all four teams are ready to work, and especially for the new recruits!
Financial Needs Met
We have experienced an outpouring of generosity over the past month that has been extraordinary. We deeply appreciate every individual and church who have stepped up to fill the gap, as well as our faithful regular financial partners, many of whom have been with us for years (bless you, bless you, bless you!).
Our budget should now be sufficient to get us through to the start of furlough next June. We really would like to finish this term well and see much accomplished in these coming months.
While we have frequently and consistently seen God supply our needs through His people, this is one of those highlight times of unexpected crisis. We couldn’t help but wonder, “Will it happen this time?” Through you, your prayers, and God’s faithfulness, the answer is yet again, “Yes!” THANK YOU!
Prayer Corner
Praises:
Four Solos teams drafting!
Two new recruits to the translation teams
God’s amazing provision (through you!): we are now back on budget
Good travel to and from Buka
Requests:
Pray for the four Solos translation sub teams as they each figure out good ways to work and that they would make progress on their sections of Genesis
That Larry would be able to use this drafting time well to get things done in literacy, linguistics, and other needed areas
For our family to thrive, whatever our circumstances
